Shanta (Peace) is one of the nine Rasas or emotional constellations in ancient Indian dance theatre. Shanta was held by the great Indian philosopher and aesthetician, Abhinavagupta (10th century AD), as the foundational constellation for contemplative practices. He suggested that all other Rasa experiences should be sourced from Shanta and dissolve into it.

You are invited to bring 2018 to a close with this beautiful Rasa experience through dance. The five week course will introduce the Shanta dance associated with seminal Indian and Buddhist archetypes including Vishnu, Siva, Buddha and Tara.

No previous experience of dance is necessary.

Siva: The ascetic dancer. A dance contemplation on the Indian archetype Siva, who is both destroyer and creator, ascetic and dancer. Like many archetypal spaces of contemplation, he invites us to dissolve polarities through embodied feeling spaces.
